Lunch seminar with Timothy Boyce: From Day to Day: One Man's Diary of Survival in Nazi Consentration Camps

We live in a troubled time, marked by conflicts and war both in our neighboring countries and in countries further afield. How should we meet the challenges we face today: both encounters with xenophobic ideologies and encounters with people who have been exposed to war and abuse?

The Childlife research group is happy to wish Timothy Boyce welcome to this lunch seminar:
“From Day to Day: One Man´s Diary of Survival in Nazi Concentration Camps”

Why such a topic and why now?

We live in a troubled time, marked by conflicts and war both in our neighbouring countries and in countries further afield. Far-right parties with an anti-immigration ideology are emerging in many countries. We also see Holocaust deniers gaining more ground.

That is why it is important that we do not forget history. It can teach us something about how we as professionals and researchers should meet the challenges we face today: both encounters with xenophobic ideologies and encounters with people who have been exposed to war and abuse.

Read about Timothy Boyce and his writings.

The seminar is open to everyone, no registration is needed but bring your own lunch-bag. We will serve coffee and tea.

Film: The Zone of Interest

After the lecture, participants are welcome to stay and watch the film The Zone of Interest: a historical drama film written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, which is based on a novel by the British author Martin Amis. The film tells the story of the German commander Rudolf Höss and his family. Höss was responsible for the operation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The Norwegian Broadcasting Coroporation, NRK, writes the following about the film when it premiered last year: "This is a harrowing depiction of the Nazis' dehumanization of the Jews during the Holocaust, a toned-down but sharp analysis of human evil and alienation. The film is a thought-provoking study of the evil of ordinary people, told with a formalistic idiom that emphasizes the absurdity of the pitch-dark act."
