Research at the Department of Life Sciences and Health

Our research projects range from basic research and disease aetiology to the evaluation of health services and professional practice.

Our ambition is to increase understanding of the causes of disease – especially cancer, infectious, neurological and lifestyle diseases – contribute to the development of advanced diagnostic methods and new treatments, and ensure patient safety and streamline healthcare services.

We use advanced molecular technology to analyze large amounts of biological data in humans and their pathogenic microbes, studying both genetic risk factors and environmental influences. Furthermore, we use quantitative, qualitative and epidemiological methods in patient-oriented studies at the individual and population level.

We collaborate closely with the health care service and industrial partners in addition to other academic institutions. This contributes to increased transfer value of our research and has an impact on current clinical practice and contributes to the development of future healthcare services.

We also collaborate with Intelligent Health at OsloMet.
