Physiotherapy students from OsloMet and Denmark pose with Pro-Rector for Social Impact and Collaboration Carl Christian Thodesen in Seoul

Physiotherapy students contribute to the Homeless World Cup

As per tradition, physiotherapy students from OsloMet were on hand to contribute in the nineteenth Homeless World Cup.

Through the physiotherapy education, students Erik Rislaa, Håvard Fluge Petterson, Mari Engelien Flattum, and Sophia Skaug Halstensen had the opportunity to experience the event up close, when it was held in Seuol in mid-September.

The stay offered a wide range of emotions; great professional benefits and challenges, mass training in terms of treatments, and a human dimension that is hard to come by elsewhere.

Afterwards, students Sandvold Rislaa and Fluge Pettersen wrote about their experiences in the professional journal Fysioterapeuten, where they encourage other students to apply to participate.

OsloMet involved in the Homeless World Cup

In 2025, the Homeless World Cup in football will be held at Rådhusplassen in Oslo. The Salvation Army is the organizer. OsloMet is a collaborative partner.

OsloMet aims to be an outward-looking university, where the application of the university's education and research for the benefit of society is an essential part of its mission.

Homelessness and drug addiction involve issues where OsloMet has strong professional environments; in health, housing, nutrition, and social work.

Pro-Rector for Social Impact and Collaboration - Carl Christian Thodesen - highlights these strong professional environments as motivation for the collaboration:

The Homeless World Cup is an event that dovetails with many of OsloMet's core strengths, and which is relevant for several of our professional environments. I think there is a lot of exciting things we can collaborate on within social improvement with this event as a platform. – Carl Thodesen

Thodesen himself was in South Korea to learn more about the event and the organization, and to participate in panel debates at Hanyang University.

He is excited about opportunities that the event and the collaboration present, both through scientific seminars and lectures, and events in connection with student start-up as part of the tournament in August 2025.
