NordSTAR is affiliated with Z-Inspection

The NordSTAR centre at OsloMet is now affiliated with the Z-Inspection® Initiative.

NordSTAR adopts the Z-Inspection process to the assessment of the trustworthiness of real-life AI systems and applications.

Z-Inspection is a holistic process used to evaluate the trustworthiness of AI-based technologies at different stages of the AI lifecycle.

It focuses, in particular, on the identification and discussion of ethical issues and tensions through the elaboration of socio-technical scenarios.

It uses the European Union's High-Level Expert Group's (EU HLEG) guidelines for trustworthy AI.

The Z-Inspection process is distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons (Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike CC BY-NC-SA) license.

Z-Inspection is listed in the new OECD Catalogue of AI Tools & Metrics (oecd.ai).

The goal of Z-Inspection is to ensure that AI and data-driven systems are used in a way that respects human rights, and is fair, transparent and accountable.

This process includes several steps, from identifying potential ethical and social impacts of an AI system, to developing recommendations to address these issues.

The Z-Inspection Initiative brings together experts from diverse fields, including computer science, philosophy, law, psychology, economics, and the social sciences, to develop and improve this process.

Z-Inspection seeks to create a standardized, robust and reliable process for ethical assessment of AI and data-driven systems.
