The Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science is the only Norwegian member of the iSchools organization, which is a network of leading universities within the information field. Many of the core member institutions offer study programs in library and information science and archival studies. By being approved as a member, the department has proven engagement in the training of future researchers, the ability to attract competitive funding, and commitment to progress in the information field.
The members of the iSchools organization share a fundamental interest in the relationship between information, people, and technology. Together they promote an interdisciplinary and innovative approach to the opportunities and challenges of information management. The organization is a platform for cooperation and exchange of best practices within education and research, and the annual iConference is an important meeting place for the gathering of scholars, researchers and practitioners concerned with critical information issues in contemporary society.
The Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science has a close cooperation with the other Nordic members of the iSchools organization. These include the Royal School of Library and Information Science at Copenhagen University, the Swedish School of Library and Information Science at the University of Borås, and the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tampere.
