As part of its commitment to international collaboration and professional development, the Evaluation and Assessment (EnA) research group offers a tailor-made training seminar on Assessment Literacy for language teachers at the Official School of Languages (EOI) of Terrassa, Catalonia, Spain. This initiative is funded through the Erasmus+ KA1 mobility programme (2025).
The EnA group works actively to bridge research, practice, and policy in educational assessment. A key part of our mission is to foster assessment literacy among educators and empower them with practical, evidence-informed tools to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
EnA’s innovative outreach strategy lies in its ability to transform research into meaningful, real-world impact through partnerships with educational institutions across Europe. By designing context-sensitive, practitioner-focused training programmes, EnA empowers schools to implement best practices in assessment that are adaptable, inclusive, and sustainable. EnA’s initiatives not only enhance teacher competence but also contribute to stronger educational ecosystems where assessment supports every learner’s growth.
About EOI Terrassa
The Official Language School of Terrassa (EOI Terrassa) is a public institution dedicated to providing modern language instruction for adult learners. It is part of a wider network of language schools under the Catalan Ministry of Education. The school offers both in-person and blended courses, with additional intensive summer sessions. Currently, EOI Terrassa offers instruction in six languages—German, Arabic, Catalan, English, French, and Italian—across 77 groups, serving more than 1,600 students and staffed by 28 teachers.
EOI Terrassa is distinguished by its diverse student body, with learners ranging from 14 to over 70 years of age. Students come from a wide array of educational and socioeconomic backgrounds and share a strong intrinsic motivation to develop their foreign language skills.
About the Training Seminar
The training programme developed by the EnA Group will focus on strengthening participants’ understanding and implementation of general Language Assessment practices and Language Assessment of students with learning difficulties. Language Assessment has been recognized at both European and national levels as a cornerstone for student-centered learning, promoting autonomy, critical reflection, and improved educational outcomes.
Through this training, participants will:
- Explore core concepts of language assessment literacy
- Develop practical tools for integrating both Summative and Formative Assessment strategies into daily teaching
- Engage in hands-on workshops, collaborative learning, and structured job shadowing activities
- Reflect on best practices and adapt assessment plans based on learner needs
- Respond and accommodate the assessment needs of students with learning difficulties in language classrooms
The seminar is structured around three key phases: preparation, participation, and follow-up.
Throughout, participants will be supported in developing tailored materials that will be stored in a shared training bank and later integrated into the broader institutional curricula. In addition, practical assessment resources will be made available to the EOI Terrassa community.
At the conclusion of the programme, feedback instruments such as questionnaires will be employed to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the training.
A Collaborative Effort for Lasting Impact
The collaboration with EOI Terrassa exemplifies the far-reaching influence of EnA’s work. This training programme is expected to spark institutional change, equipping educators with the confidence and tools to rethink how language learning is assessed. By prioritizing inclusivity and learner-centered approaches, the seminar will not only benefit hundreds of students in Terrassa but also serve as a replicable model for other institutions committed to innovation in assessment and teaching excellence.
This initiative reflects the EnA group’s dedication to strengthening educational institutions through meaningful professional development, community engagement, and international collaboration. We are proud to partner with EOI Terrassa in their ongoing commitment to language education and pedagogical innovation.
