The DEMUDIG project investigates the extent and influence of citizen participation through ICT and social media in urban governance.
The project brings together different academic disciplines: political science, information and communication technology and sociology.
The project uses different data sources and methods:
- Knowledge regarding the three cities’ communication strategies and design of their ICT-platforms.
- Surveys mapping citizens’ use of and perceived impact from ICT-channels in these three cities.
- A case study in the city of Oslo, mapping how the city facilitates and manages participatory processes, how citizen initiatives are channelled into the policy process and if and how they eventually influence policy-making.
DEMUDIG is funded by the Research Council's program Democratic and Effective Governance, Planning and Public Administration (DEMOS).
