Digital health technology: implementation hinders and possibilities in non-critical emergency care cases

This qualitative study explores the barriers and opportunities related to implementing digital health solutions in non-critical emergency care within the Norwegian healthcare context.

The growing global demand for emergency care, driven by aging populations and chronic diseases, calls for innovative solutions. Digital health technologies offer promising improvements in patient outcomes, satisfaction, and resource optimization.

Digital health technologies have shown positive impacts in emergency care, improving patient satisfaction and healthcare outcomes.

These technologies support triage, treatment, consultations, and discharge, and can enhance experiences, optimize resources, and reduce costs through AI and remote monitoring. In non-critical emergencies, digital health is effective for conditions needing prompt but not immediate attention.

Alternatives to ambulance transport, like home care and social services, can save costs and improve care. Norway’s high-quality healthcare system faces challenges with an aging population and rising chronic diseases.

The aim of this qualitative interview study is to enhance understanding of potential future barriers and opportunities related to the use and implementation of digital health technology in non-critical care situations within the Norwegian emergency care context.
