Housing as a Welfare Good for Young NEETs

This project explores how housing conditions affect young people who are neither in education, employment, nor training (NEETs) in Oslo. The aim is to understand how place of residence and neighbourhood can contribute to social exclusion, and the role that housing plays in marginalisation processes.

Young NEETs represent a diverse group, and there is limited knowledge about how their housing situation influences their life chances. This project will map how these young people live, how their living conditions impact their opportunities, and what support they receive from the welfare system.

The study combines qualitative interviews with key informants and quantitative analyses of registry data to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue.

The project focuses on Oslo Municipality, where the housing market may pose particular challenges for young people in vulnerable situations. The project group is in dialogue with the City of Oslo regarding key issues and relevant measures for young people who are neither in education nor employment.

The project is funded by OsloMet’s strategic initiative for children and young people.
