Norway is among the countries in Europe with the largest share of residents living in smaller city regions (SCRs). These regions are central to the national goals of regionally balanced development and to securing sustainable regions throughout the country.
The project's goal is to contribute to new knowledge development and sharing about SCR’s development, attractivity and sustainability with relevance for theory development, policy and planning on local, regional and national levels. This will be done by:
- Discuss and delimit perspectives and concepts of SCR, development og resilience, attractiveness and sustainability
- Classify and describe main types and varieties of SCRs and development paths in Norway,
- Illuminating, describe and explaining a selection of SCR with regard to
- demographic and economic development paths, attractiveness, sustainability status and challenges
- governance systems and institutional capabilities with particular focus on place-based leadership and co-creation for resilient, attractive and sustainable SCRs
- In a comprehensive synthesis, extract and discuss theory, policy and planning-relevant knowledge about MBR, development and sustainability for the future
