This project's aim is to investigate the relation between gut microbiota and metabolic regulation in people with spinal cord injury in a longitudinal study by the use of omics technology.
People with spinal cord injury (SCI) have several medical challenges and one of these is related to gastrointestinal dysfunction.
In addition, people with SCI have a higher risk of obesity and metabolic diseases compared to the general population.
Whether or not the SCI and gastrointestinal dysfunction will affect the gut microbiota is not known.
We will therefore conduct a longitudinal study to investigate the impact of the SCI on the gut microbiota and metabolic health using high-throughput omics technology.
This project has received seed funding from the Intelligent Health Initiative at OsloMet.
