Key Operation and Maintenance Strategies for Wind Farms

Master's course - Continuing education

This course will equip you with foundational knowledge of operation and maintenance strategies for Wind Farms.

Admission requirements

To apply for this programme you must have Higher Education Entrance Qualification (samordnaopptak.no).

For applicants with foreign education, the requirements are specified in the Higher Education Entrance Qualification for Persons with Foreign Education (GSU-list) (hkdir.no).

Applicants aged 25 years and older, without documentable higher education entrance qualifications, may request to have their qualifications assessed on the basis of prior learning (information in Norwegian).

To apply for this program, you must also have a minimum of 60 credits in civil or mechanical engineering or related subjects, such as marine engineering and aeronautical engineering.

Target group

The target group is final year bachelor students and students pursuing master’s programmes, and maintenance engineers who have educational background in mechanical or civil engineering.

Course content

You will explore the fundamentals of commonly used maintenance strategies such as reactive, preventive, condition-based, and predictive maintenance.

Special focus will be given to using SCADA and condition monitoring data to frame maintenance plans.

The course will also discuss the concept of opportunistic maintenance, especially in offshore settings, including the management of vessels and cranes essential for accessing and servicing wind farms (WFs).

By the end of this course, you will be well-prepared to design effective maintenance strategies aligning with ISO55001 standards that optimize the operation of WFs and reduce overall costs.

How the course is taught

The course is scheduled to run for three weeks, with lectures held on two days each week. Each lecture day will consist of a four 45 minutes session. Thus approximately 36 hours of lectures.

It will be classroom and online lectures by experts from the industry.

The course will be conducted in a hybrid format at OsloMet, allowing students outside of Oslo to participate remotely.
