Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business. The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.
Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.
Oslo Business School is a growing business school focusing on teaching quality and excellence in research. The school has approximately 2000 students and 80 employees and offers study programs at the Bachelor-, Master-, and PhD levels. The Finance and Accounting group is one of the school’s five sections and is a vibrant and diverse group consisting of researchers that regularly publish in recognized international journals.
Oslo Business School invites applications for two PhD positions in the Finance and Accounting group. One of the positions is within any area of finance and accounting. The other is within finance and has a special focus on the intersection between finance, macroeconomics, and entrepreneurship. Both positions are connected to the PhD program in Social Sciences.
We are looking for two highly motivated PhD candidates who have an interest in undertaking challenging and rigorous research. Besides a background in finance and/or accounting, we also welcome applicants with a master’s degree in related disciplines.
About the positions
The PhD candidates will be employed by Oslo Metropolitan University for a total of four years full time. 75% of the position’s time will be dedicated to the completion of PhD research, and 25% to the acquisition of academic skills through teaching courses and/or assisting with supervising theses and grading.
For the first position, PhD candidates can choose topics of their own interest related to finance and/or accounting areas. Finance areas include asset management, financial markets, corporate finance, household finance, sustainable finance, financial intermediation. Accounting areas include auditing such as audit quality, financial accounting in the intersection between accounting information and capital markets, financial reporting, and ESG and AI topics related to accounting and auditing.
For the second position, PhD candidates are related to a project and can choose topics related to corporate finance, financial intermediation, banking, monetary economics, macro-finance, textual analysis and natural language processing applied to corporate finance and/or macroeconomics.
Qualification requirements
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Excellent MSc (120 credits/ECTS) in Finance, Accounting, Quantitative Finance, Business Administration, or similar degree in related fields. We also welcome applications from candidates close to finishing their degree
- Strong interest in research on finance and/or accounting
- Strong quantitative analytical (econometrics) skills
- Strong programming skills (e.g., python, R, Stata, Matlab)
- The ability to work independently
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in written form
In addition, experience from research projects and publishing in academic journals will be an advantage, as is experience with quantitative or qualitative research.
Admission to the doctoral programme is a prerequisite. Applicants to this program must have a B or better on the master's thesis and an average grade of B or better on the master's degree.
Admission to the doctoral program is based on a comprehensive assessment of the application, including the relevance and quality of the project description. Final project plan for the fellowship period is required to be completed and approved within 3 months after admission to the post.

- A research proposal of about 4 pages for the PhD-dissertation
- CV including a summary of master’s thesis and previous scholarly work including conference presentations
- Certificates/diplomas for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed
- Copies of master’s thesis and published works

Assessment
Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. Before the application documents are forwarded to the expert committee, all applications will be first reviewed by the faculty. Based on an initial assessment, applicants may be invited to OsloMet for further assessment as well as interviews.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, job title and position code – the state salary wage scale 54, which is NOK 532 200 per year.
