The Sub-strategy for Research and Development provides direction for OsloMet as a research university towards 2030.
OsloMet shall be a place where academic freedom holds a strong position, and where knowledge is developed, shared and challenged.
OsloMet shall further develop its position as an engaged university that conducts research in collaboration with the society around us.
Reaching the objectives for research and development require considerable effort and development work both within the research communities and in the university’s support functions for research.
Research at OsloMet shall be of high quality
OsloMet shall conduct research driven by academic curiosity and the desire to contribute important knowledge to society. This includes long-term research that contributes to the international research front, research that meets specific needs in society, and artistic research and development work.
Our research shall be of high quality. It shall be truth-seeking and adhere to recognised scientific and methodological standards, regardless of where and in what format the research is published.
OsloMet shall
- promote a research culture in which ethics, integrity, transparency, collegiality and responsible research are important foundations. Effective training and guidance for this shall be provided.
- participate in international collaborations that help develop OsloMet’s academic communities and the international research front.
- ensure that OsloMet’s PhD programmes provide good insight into scientific standards and research culture. The university’s PhD candidates shall be well integrated into their academic communities.
- increase external funding of research from national sources and EU framework programmes.
- facilitate research management that strengthens project implementation and the development of research activities.
- ensure access to necessary research infrastructure such as e-infrastructure and advanced scientific equipment, and good information security and data protection systems.
- provide high-quality research support that is developed in dialogue with the research communities.
OsloMet shall develop knowledge that solves societal challenges
OsloMet shall promote research that meets the needs of society regionally, nationally and internationally.
Through its own research efforts and in collaboration with others, OsloMet shall contribute to the University Strategy’s goals:

Research at OsloMet shall contribute to the university’s educational programmes
OsloMet’s educational programmes lead to some of the most important professions in society, and many of the programmes are closely tied to the relevant fields of practice.
Through research, an academic foundation is developed both for the educational programmes and the professions they qualify for.
The interaction between research, education and supervised professional training contributes to the development of the subjects.
OsloMet shall
- ensure robust academic communities that can further develop the subjects we teach, and ensure research-based and academically updated programmes.
- facilitate so that research from the entire university contributes to educational programmes.
- promote interaction between research, education and supervised professional training so that they mutually strengthen each other.
- invite students into research through active participation in projects and training in research methodology and ethics.
