The aim of the project is to gain new knowledge about physiotherapists and general practitioners’ assessments regarding the choice of treatment for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain.
The choosing wisely campaign has contributed to putting the concept of utility value of healthcare on the agenda. Discussions about the utility value of physiotherapy are frequently associated with chronic musculoskeletal pain.
This is because patients with this kind of illness often seek physiotherapy for help, and because the treatment of long term musculoskeletal is associated with great uncertainty.
By using psychomotor physiotherapy as the case, we will in this project look more closely at the practical issues that arise when physiotherapists are to assess the utility value of the treatment.
What choices do the therapists have in their clinical everyday life? Collaboration with the general practitioners is central in the psychomotor physiotherapists’ assessments around treatment.
What issues arise when therapists are to assess treatment based on opportunities for cooperation with general practitioners?
To investigate this, we will use focus group interviews of both psychomotor physiotherapists and general practitioners.
