The qualitative and sequential PhD project explores patient safety culture and adverse events in the evidence and the surgical context.
This PhD project aims to broaden the understanding of the phenomenon patient safety culture and adverse events in the surgical context, identify themes of interest for quality improvement and education in the surgical context, and identify perceived causes of adverse events.
The project consists of three substudies:
- A scoping review summarizing the evidence on the association between patient safety culture and adverse events, mapping the methodological characteristics, strengths and limitations, and identifying knowledge gaps.
- A qualitative study conducting semi-structured in-depth interviews with the surgical team. This study explores the surgical teams’ perceptions of the phenomenon.
- A qualitative study conducting semi-structured in-depth interviews with previous surgical patients. This study explores the perceptions of previous patients regarding the phenomenon.
