The project investigates the development of language skills and world knowledge in Polish-Norwegian multilingual children and their monolingual peers in Poland and Norway.
PolkaNorski Implemented will disseminate research-based knowledge on two topics: children's language development and children's play in nature.
We will create videos and podcasts for parents and Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) staff about multilingual children's language development and the ECEC's work with children's play in nature.
We will also publish language assessment tools for Polish-speaking children living in Norway.
The project is an extension of the Polish-Norwegian research project PolkaNorski (2020-24), which was a collaboration between the University of Warsaw, the University of Oslo and OsloMet.
In this project, we investigated the importance of training for parents expecting children growing up with Polish and Norwegian, children's language development at the age of 0-6 years, language assessment tools for Polish-speaking children living in Norway, and the differences between Polish and Norwegian ECECs in outdoor play.
The research is currently being published.
