Medhanie is an Associate Professor of Organization and Management at Oslo Business School, OsloMet. He earned his Ph.D. from Umeå School of Business and Economics (USBE) and was awarded the Wallander Postdoctoral Fellowship by Handelsbanken, a prestigious three-year fellowship granted for a high quality doctoral thesis. Medhanie has also been a visiting student researcher and visiting scholar at Stanford University.
In 2020, Medhanie was appointed as an Associate Professor (SV – Docent). That same year, he received the USBE Scientific Award, recognizing outstanding scientific writing and high-quality research, and was also appointed as a recognized university teacher (SV – meriterad lärare).
From April 2021 to December 2024, Medhanie served as the Coordinator of the Management Section and the Master’s Program in Management at the Department of Business Administration, USBE.
Medhanie’s research interests include paradox theory, early-phase venturing processes, and startup-corporate collaboration. His academic work has been published in leading journals, including Academy of Management Review, Organization Studies, and Journal of Management Inquiry, as well as practitioner-oriented outlets such as the Harvard Business Review. He is also the co-author of Organizational Paradox: Theory and Practice (Sage Publications), Organizational Paradox (Elements in Organization Theory, Cambridge University Press), and Designing Organizations (Elgar Introductions, Edward Elgar Publishing).
